* Seunso, (Ship building place)
National historic site No. 392
Since the Japanese invaded Korea in 1592,
the famous Turtle Ship had been built and repaired there. In
1591, Admiral Yi
Sunshin decided to build Turtle Ship when
he arrived at the
ship
building area in Seunso village after surveying
many other
place; namely, Jongpo, dolsan and Ssangbong.
Seunso village
itself was a natural fortress.
Admiral Yi completed the construction of the
Turtle Ship
with the aids of millitary officer, Na Daeyong,
who was
highly skillful in ship building. The first
Turtle Ship was
ready for a test cruise off at Shijeundong
on March 27, 1592, the next year.
Seunso village was a suitable place for watching
enemy and hiding our fleet. There are many other relics such
as GulGang (ancharged site for Turtle Ship), Segeumjeung (tower
for washing sword), GyeseunJu (a Stone post to tie roaring ship)
and Beuksu (a stone statue of a guardian man).
Seunso was designated as National Historic
Site No. 392 on April 20, 1995.
