* Jinnamkwan Building : National
treasure N0. 324
Jinnamkwan was the Korean's naval headquarter
for over
400 years during Choseun Dynasty for defense
against the
Japanese invasion.
The building was reconstructed by Admiral
Yi Si-Eun in 1599(32nd year of King Seunjo) after the Japanese
Invasion of
1592 on the site where Admiral Yi Sun Shin
set up earlier his headquarters for Jeulla left naval forces.
In 1716 (the 42nd year of King Sunjo's reign),
the building was rebuilt after having been destroyed by a fire
in 1718.
It has been repaired several times.
The building was originally used to enshrine
a king's
mortuary tablet and hold memorial rites twice
a month.
It has 68 huge pillars, 14m high, and 2.4m
round. It is the largest one story wooden structure building
now in Korea.
Manghaeru building was demolished by the Japanese
during the Colonial period. The two story pavilion standing
in front
of Jinnamkwan, was restored on April 1991.
